Flower of the Valley

In the shade of the mountain

in the Valley by the Mill

a hidden Flower of the Valley

Shades of green and pink and blue

How I long to kiss your morning dew

From the glow of the moonlight

to the early morning mist

Your fragrant scent entices me to find

you weeping by the waterfall

nestled in the heather’s glen

Eyes open like sleepy petals

near redwood groves of a thousand years

I’ll count the stars

and pray to heaven

and wait for you to blossom again

Perhaps you are not to be plucked

and pressed into collection

Are you to be admired and embraced

and left for others to see?

like your delicate beauty - free

More romantic than a rose

as provocative as a pose

As rare as a rainbow

more beautiful than a butterfly in motion

as tempestuous as the ocean

You are the Flower of the Valley

Let the red-tails cry

and the morning doves coo

Let the village church bells ring

when your love blossoms for me
